Beneath the surface of Mars -- thanks to a pioneering radar co-sponsored by NASA aboard the European Space Agency's Mars Express orbiter, observations strongly suggest that ancient impact craters lie buried beneath the smooth, low plains of Mars' northern hemisphere.
